Recreational marijuana sales are expected to begin in Michigan this Sunday.
David Harns is a spokesperson for the Marijuana Regulatory Agency. He says state licensed shops are allowed to sell product that has been on the shelf and available to medical marijuana patients for at least 30 days.
“Businesses can start to fulfill some of the demand we're seeing for these products in Michigan,” Harns said.
Harns says there will be no change for people buying products with a medical card.
Greenstone Provisions is one of the three shops, all of which are in Ann Arbor, to get licensed. Bartek Kupczyk, Greenstone’s Director of Retail, says they will open the store at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
“I’m not really sure what to expect since it’ll be the first day, but it’s a landmark day for the cannabis industry,” Kupcyzk said.
These shops will open up roughly one year after recreational marijuana became legal in Michigan. The legality of it came one month after Michigan voters supported a proposal to legalize the substance.
