Cheers! Michigan subs for NYC in the drink made famous by Sex and the City

Three Michigan spirits sub in this 'version' of a Cosmopolitan.

You might have left the Cosmopolitan cocktail behind after the HBO TV series which made it famous stopped production. But, just as Sex and the City is still a bit of a cultural phenomenon, so is that drink.

When Tammy Coxen with Tammy’s Tastings discovered Ann Arbor Distilling’s Water Hill cranberry liqueur, she was inspired to make a Michigan version of the Cosmo that she’s calling a "Michipolitan."

Instead of a citrus flavored vodka, an imported orange liqueur, and cranberry juice or cocktail, this drink uses three Michigan spirits.

Tammy has been trying to find ways to combine Michigan-made spirits for an upcoming cocktail class named ‘Made in Michigan’ and she thought this would fit nicely.

The original Cosmopolitan was made with a citrus vodka, an imported orange liqueur, cranberry juice or cranberry cocktail, and lime juice. Tammy is using those flavors, but with three Michigan spirits. First the cranberry liqueur from Ann Arbor Distilling, then she adds an unflavored vodka from Ugly Dog Distillery in Chelsea (it's made from Michigan wheat), and finally a spirit from New Holland Spirits called Clockwork Orange liqueur.

Tammy says this drink “screams” spring and summer sipping.

The taste definitely reminds you of a Cosmopolitan (if you can still remember the taste), but the cast of characters in the Michipolitan gives the drink a sexy twist on that old favorite.
