A former Michigan State University psychologist has been forced to surrender his license for not reporting the suspected abuse of a minor by Larry Nassar.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and the state Attorney General's office issued a consent order against Gary Stollak Friday.

Stollak was a child psychologist at MSU in 2004, when then-12-year-old Kyle Stephens was allegedly brought to him after telling her parents Nassar had sexually abused her.

Stollak has since retired, and claims a stroke took away any memory of the incident. In 2017, Stephens' case was one of the seven first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges to which Nassar pleaded guilty.

In a press release, LARA says it investigated the claims and that the Disciplinary Subcommittee of the Board of Psychology approved the consent order On September 27. Stollak’s license to practice psychology cannot be reinstated, reissued, or reactivated at any future date.

Gary Stollak was reached by phone, but hung up without comment.

Pardeep Toor, the Public Information Officer for LARA, said that the agency relies on allegations submitted by individuals with concerns to launch investigations.

When asked why the agency took so long to investigate after Stephens first gave her testimony in February 2017, Toor wrote in an email to Michigan Radio, "For this specific case, LARA received an external allegation on the licensee on 11/6/2017. After the allegation was received, LARA requested authorization from the Board of Psychology to investigate and began its investigation. While investigating, LARA generated a second allegation on 3/8/18 based on media reports related to the licensee."
